My most recent blog posts have all been for advanced level players, so I decided to make a blog post on the introduction to openings. The next few blogs will include Introduction to Middlegames (for begginers) and Introduction to Endgames (for beginners). Let us begin!
The goal of the opening is to get out your troops onto active squares where they can fight against the opponent's army. The fight is in the middlegame, but first you need to deploy your forces into active positions.
Your forces will be most active in the center, so first rule of Chess Openings: BRING YOUR PIECES TO THE CENTER, AND CONTROL THE CENTER SQUARES WITH PAWNS!
This is your optimal setup in the opening. Note how all your pieces (and pawns!) are controlling the center!
RULE #2 GET YOUR KING TO SAFETY AND DEFEND YOUR CENTER WITH YOUR ROOKS!
Castle your king to safety and place your rooks on open lines so they can also play a part in controlling the center.
Here is an example:
Control the Center with All your Pieces!
Castle your king as soon as you can!
Thanks for reading! Hopefully this blog post helped you!
